Geothermal heating provides many benefits especially to homes and buildings. The fact that the energy it uses comes from nature makes it very appealing to homeowners. And with a renewable source that will never go out of supply, it incurs less operational costs compared to any other type of heating system available in the market today.

The term geothermal actually pertains to two Greek words, “gheo” meaning earth and “thermal” which means heat. Geothermal energy is formed deep in the earth’s core where temperatures can reach more than 6,000 degrees Celsius, hot enough to melt even a solid rock. Temperatures below the earth’s surface are constant all year round the reason why geothermal energy is very suitable for heating and cooling homes and other closed infrastructures.

In the olden days, geothermal energy was used in some countries in hot springs that served as places where people can take a bath for recreation or for medical healing. In fact, it was already known in the ancient times such as during the Roman period that geothermal water notably in hot springs has positive therapeutic effects on humans. It is even believed that it can help heal skin diseases.

In assessing the effects of geothermal energy considering its various applications, it can be seen that it has no negative impact on the environment or less, if at all. Use of geothermal heating systems, for instance, emits no fumes and the absence of fans makes them less noisy. Perhaps the only environmental problem that can occur when installing geothermal heating or power system is the digging up of your lawn when pipes are being buried underground. This type of home heating project usually involves closed loop systems that need to be installed underneath the soil.

Apart from this installation of a home geothermal heating system, only a large project has a potential of causing some damage to the environment. One example is the generation of electricity from superheated water. This project entails the drilling of the ground to release the steam being generated at the interface of underground water deposits and magma.

Although the drilling process may already cause damage, the construction procedure to assemble the huge equipment that will be used to generate power has a more adverse environmental effect. Since the areas where much steam occurs are normally situated in remote and rugged places, a road may need to be built in order to bring the needed machinery. Several professionals take part in the process and environmental consultants are often hired to obtain the necessary permits for such a major project.

Another project involving geothermal heating that can impact the environment pertains to the open discharge systems used near lakes or ponds. Since water is a good conductor of heat, some companies opt to locate their facilities near bodies of water. However, there are laws that require firms using this system to prove at the local, county or state level that no harm is being done to the environment by letting discharges from the system seep into the watershed or by lowering the water’s oxygen.

Overall though, geothermal heating is environment friendly and beneficial to humans thus it remains a popular choice among homeowners and builders as well.

While many realize that global warming is occurring on our planet, few understand the implications that this may have on our way of life. These rising global temperatures are going to cause a host of changes on our planet, and we need to act now or prepare to adjust to some very profound changes.

First, these rising temperatures present a huge threat to our ice-caps. Layers of ice that have not melted for thousands of years are beginning to break apart and fall into the ocean. One of the biggest ice sheets on the planet, located on Greenland, is at a great risk of splitting apart and falling into the ocean. While it doesn’t sound like too big of a deal, the loss of the Greenland ice sheet will cause catastrophic circumstances world wide. The world’s sea level is expected to rise as much as 23 feet when the sheet falls, and that spells disaster for the coastal cities that represent some of the largest and most important centers of trade and commerce across the planet. Manhattan would be sunk; much of Florida would be underwater, and that’s not even to mention the worldwide consequences. Every area of the globe would be affected by this rising of sea levels, and the disaster caused would make hurricane damage seem like a blessing. Millions of refugees from the coastal cities will be without home or workplace; it would be one of the hugest human issues ever faced in our history. The changing of the climate could also affect a host of circumstances on our planet; crop yields can be affected by the rising temperatures, which would also pose significant problems to a planet of refugees. Much of the land may become barren due to the effects of temperature change, and we may find some of our most arable lands subject to the effects of soil erosion, and eventually, a transition into desert land. Also, water supplies, forests, and plant and animal life would be affected by the planet’s changes, and we may not be able to see how significant these changes may affect our lives until they are already upon us. For that reason, it’s important that we increase our knowledge of global warming, and do our best to prevent it in the coming years. While it may have adverse affects on our economy and our way of life, we owe it to our children to give them a peaceful, safe planet to grow up in.

The Effects of Global Warming on Wildlife

Global warming is defined as an increase in the Earth’s temperature and is caused by a rise in greenhouse gas emissions. There is no doubt that the warming is affecting the planet and forcing every living creature to adapt to a changing climate. As the Earth’s temperature increases, wildlife will have a difficult time adapting. The National Wildlife Federation considers global warming to be “the most dangerous threat to the future of wildlife.” Global warming has adverse effects on both people and wildlife. It has been blamed for the severe hurricanes, droughts, and floods that have plagued us in recent years. These natural disasters and climate changes have had a significant impact on wildlife and may cause many species to become extinct. Global warming is happening too quickly and most animals do not have enough time to adapt to the quickly changing environment.

When we think of the impact that global warming has had on wildlife, we automatically think of polar bears and the melting ice which is caused by global warming. This is mainly due to the media attention that is directed towards them. Many experts feel that polar bears will become extinct due to the melting ice. Polar bears rely on the ice to hunt and they need the ice because they are unable to swim long distances. However, polar bears are not the only species of animal struggling to survive due to the climate change caused by warming affect.

Birds are also impacted greatly by the warming of the planet. As the climate changes, birds are starting to migrate later and later in the season and many are not flying as far south to find open water. Migratory birds have a set migration pattern that they follow which depends on their ability to get food. These changes can have an adverse affect on the earth’s various ecosystems. Global warming might have the greatest impact on the oceans and the animals that make their home in our oceans. The warming of the planet is causing the icecaps to melt which causes the oceans to rise. The rising oceans cause fish to lose their habitat and coral reefs to die. Global warming causes carbon dioxide to become trapped in the oceans which raises the acidity levels of the oceans which damages the food chain.

We have to remember that the planet does not just belong to us but to every living creature on Earth. The increased temerature of our planet is a huge problem and we all must take action to preserve our planet not only for the animals but for our survival and the survival of future generations. We all must strive to reduce our greenhouse gas emissions in our home, car, and workplace.

One of the best and most effective ways we can help the environment is to stop using fossil fuels. Renewable and alternative energy technologies offer many options to do just that. We can do this even on a personal basis. There are many options for individual home owners to replace conventional grid power with greener technology and save money while doing it. As a matter of fact they can even make you money.

Since last decade, global warming and climate change has become an issue of great concern at the the international platform. The policy makers from all over the world have decided to unite and chalk out a plan to keep the adverse effects of global warming within safety limits. Recently a climate conference is being held up in Copenhagen from 6th to 18th December 2009 where the governments of different nations meet for the last time before the Kyoto Protocol to prevent climate changes and global warming runs out at 2012.

Now,as the world is getting technologically and industrially advanced resulting in setting up of huge factories and projects the environmental pollution is heading towards alarming levels at an exponential rate. It’s obvious that more factories means more pollution and more carbon emissions which highly aggravate global warming. But the bitter truth behind the entire framework is that we, the common mass, are aware to a great extent regarding this alarming situation yet we do so little for the cause. Actually the fact is that we feel hardly concerned about the effect the global warming is having on our locality and at a large scale, on the world.

Standing today towards the end of the year 2009,the entire world is looking forward towards a successful and mutual agreement at the Copenhagen climate conference. Subsequently several key issues have come up which needs to be resolved first by the governments of the world before we can come to a successful conclusion. The United States have agreed to reduce carbon emissions by 17% by 2020 over 2005. Now they demand India to reduce its emissions by 20-25% within 2020.

India is a developing country which is growing presently at a rate of 8%. But US is technologically a far developed nation than India and obviously they should be taking the upper hand in reducing the global warming across the world. Thus US should make more sacrifices than what is expected out of India. They should agree to reduce carbon emission by more than 17%. Prime Minister Manmohan Singh recently stated that India has the potent to reduce carbon emission not only by 20-25% but to a level of 37% without sacrificing over the present growth rate but it is only ready to make the commitments provided the US agrees to do the one expected on their part.

Recently a group of UK scientists have warned that if the global warming is allowed to increase at the present rate, the temperature of the world can increase by 4 degree centigrade within 2060 which is earlier than expected. A simple rule that needs to be followed is that the biggest gainers should make the biggest sacrifices. Otherwise the issue of global warming will result in a barrier to the underdeveloped countries towards their development. This is also not desirable under any circumstance.

Thus keeping focus on the entire situation, we must join hands to fight global warming and make the world a better place to breadth and live on.

The negative effects of global warming have now become a matter of concern for governments all around the world. It is predicted that rise in the planet’s temperature will continue and get much worse in the future if stringent steps are not taken to stop it right from now.

Global warming may have disastrous results in the future as the glaciers may melt down thereby making the levels of the oceans to rise. If this is not checked, then it would lead to floods and cities along the coasts will be the worst affected. Whole cities would get submerged under the seas in the next 30 years. Research by the climatic organizations suggests that the effects of this warming are irreversible. This steady rise in overall temperature has also led to Arctic shrinkage as well as changes in the seasonal patterns.

As a result, climatic changes are leading to irreversible effects at global and continental levels. And, the worst part is that these effects are increasing day by day. There have also been large reductions in the West Antarctic and the Greenland ice sheets. Even the animals in these regions are becoming extinct as they are left with less space to live in. The emission of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere is trapping poisonous gases which are not allowing the sun’s heat to escape from the atmosphere. Hence, the average global temperature has also increased in the last few years. There have been adverse changes in the rainfall as well. This has hit the economy of many countries very badly.

Global Warming: Do You Believe?

When it comes to orbicular warming, you will encounter no insufficiency of information.  Whether you countenance online, turn the television on, or pick up a newspaper, you are likely to wager something on orbicular warming.

As previously stated, orbicular hot is a topic that is becoming “hot.”  It is an issue that is widely discussed.  Most of the information that you will feature or wager on television concerns the negative affects that orbicular hot will have on your planet, much as coastal flooding, erratic weather, and the easy spread of diseases.  Another popular orbicular hot topic is prevention.  You are also likely always presented with ways that you crapper help to kibosh or at least lessen the impact of orbicular warming.  These ways often include purchasing energy efficient appliances, cars, and light bulbs.

Although much attention and focus is placed on what orbicular hot is and what we crapper do to kibosh it, you will also encounter opposition.  In recent years, we have learned just how much opposition orbicular hot has.  Global hot is no longer a cause for environmentalists; it is also a big cause for debate.  This speaking circles around a number of different viewpoints, much as the digit that orbicular hot is just a scam to collect money for environmental organizations and the view that the changes we are seeing aren’t directly related to orbicular warming, as they have been anticipated for years now.

As previously mentioned, the orbicular hot speaking has seemed to acquire in past years.  Before, you haw have occasionally heard of a semipolitical figure or celebrity who believed that orbicular hot was null more than an untrue myth.  However, now, you crapper wager this opposition just about anywhere.  Global hot is widely debated online, on television, and even on the radio.  What does this mean for you and other Americans?  It often means uncertainty.  After all, if you have so many grouping telling you that orbicular hot is just a scam to raise money, you haw start to believe so after a while.

As for your viewpoints, do you believe in orbicular warming?  If you are uncertain, do you at least feel that it is an issue that needs to be discussed more?  If so, you are not alone.  Many Americans would same to wager more information and grounds on orbicular warming.  The good news is that you crapper easily encounter this grounds online or with television and flick documentaries, much as An Inconvenient Truth, by Al Gore.  The internet is another tool that you haw poverty to use, when giving orbicular hot a closer look.  In fact, you haw poverty to take the time to investigate both sides of the orbicular hot debate.  This haw help you decide whether or not orbicular hot is something that you believe in.

Even if you do not officially believe in orbicular warming, you haw still be concerned with the environment.  As outlined above, some opposition believes that the earth’s temperature would rise anyways, as it has been doing so for years now.  The same crapper be said with sea level, as a rise in it has always been anticipated.  Even if orbicular hot isn’t the cause of these changes, they crapper still cause alarm.  The digit thing that many experts agree on, whether or not they crapper agree on orbicular warming, is that some of the prevention tips suggested are ones that crapper do no harm.  These tips include carpooling when doable and reducing as much energy in your home as possible, much as by turning soured all unused lights and appliances.
